IHMS, a leader in receivable management went one step further with the implementation of our TPL program. This program specifically is designed to identify and follow-up on MVA and liability claims that may take years to resolve. These cases involve third parties and become complicated very quickly. IHMS asserts the right of the hospital to recovery funds for services rendered using state lien statutes. By filing a hospital lien the provider's right to recover funds for services rendered is asserted and made known to the various parties involved in the case. Once a lien has been filed, IHMS begins a series of follow-up efforts and negotiations with the various parties until settlement or a judgment has been made by the court. Using jointly developed settlement criteria, IHMS is able to resolve accounts quickly.
IHMS can help providers identify TPL cases by looking for admission with trauma and accident codes. This process assists in identifying potential cases for review by IHMS specialists.

Capabilities
IHMS is able to handle both manual and electronic referrals under this program. Once an account is received all parties are contacted and a lien filed. If the case settled prior to referral to IHMS, the hospital is notified and the case returned unless a lien was filed and never collected. If the lien wasn't collected then IHMS pursues collection of the lien.
